Searching for true love

From birth to death, always and everywhere, people search for love. At first a child looks for it at home, he seeks it in relationships with parents, brothers and sisters, then at school - in relationships with friends, then as the child is growing up he is looking for love in marital relations, and later hopes to find it in his children and grandchildren.

A man seeks love which would alsways give joy, inspiration and strength in different relationships. But no relationship with another person can be completely satisfying, because at the heart of love there is almost always a desire to receive something in return. Such a love depends on the other person, on the circumstances of life. It's easy to be lost. If the one we love does not act the way we want, then grutch, jealousy, envy, anger can arise within us. These feelings may destroy the love we have. Then we go searching for love in a new relationship. Everyone wants to find such a love that would last forever, would cause no inner fear that soon it will be lost.

Love is necessary for everyone. Why? Because it is a great power that gives us joy, fills us with energy. However, not everyone understands that the source of this energy is God. In his searching for love, a person is actually unconsciously looking for its source: for God. The pursuit of God was originally designed in our souls. It's the nature of our souls. Each person has a piece of God inside, has His energy. That's what atma (soul) actually is. Thanks to it we can breathe, see, hear, think, etc. And this part, which once was separated from the Whole, wishes to reunite with it once again. It will not rest until it unites with its source: with Paramatma, with God. Therefore, it is never satisfied with only profane love. It seeks a higher, pure relationship. And this search may last for thousands of lives

Karma spins a person, forces him to be born and die, and to be born again. All his life a person strives for something. To achieve his goals, he works hard and spends a lot of time and energy on it. When he reaches what he desires, for a while he is glad and satisfied. But this state passes, and a person then rushes to another goal. So it continues life by life. A person receives beauty, riches, and glory, but atma strives for something different: it wants to reunite with its source, Paramatma. Before this reunion happens, there will be no inner peace, there will be no true eternal joy.

Like a lost little child wants to find his home and see his parents, so a soul (atma) wants to connect with God (Paramatma). A child may forget the road leading to his home, he may even forget how his house looks like from the outside. He only remembers the state he experienced while being at home. He tries to remember the address, goes to from one place to another, looks everywhere for his home, and this search goes on and on. He is full of desperation and anxiety. But when at last he finds the right way and gets home, he feels so good, so calm, and snug there. Many times as large is the desire of atma to return to its «home», to connect with Paramatma. Nothing else can satisfy it. Therefore, neither power nor great wealth, nor anything else in this world can bring us complete inner peace.

To unite with God is to destroy all internal obstacles created by karma that separate us from God and to always feel united with Him. Such a state is called Atma-Jnana or enlightenment.
